As a breaking news reporter at the Coloradoan, I covered a series of high-profile murders, including the county’s deadliest shooting in more than a decade.

To better contextualize these tragedies, I published an in-depth cover story about the role domestic violence played and the prevalence of intimate partner violence in the community.

I interviewed experts, victim advocates, and survivors and combined their insights with data and documents to dispel the misconception that domestic violence doesn’t occur in the community and to educate readers about the behaviors that are warning signs of abuse. After the article published, I worked with victim advocates to host a workshop to further engage and educate community members.
